Building a Healthier America
Canned foods provide nutritious, safe, affordable, convenient and sustainable options for Americans trying to make smart food choices for their health and the environment. In fact, a Michigan State University (MSU) study, published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, underscored this important role.
The study, “Nutrition and Cost Comparisons of Select Canned, Frozen and Fresh Fruits and Vegetables,” analyzed more than 40 scientific journal studies and nutrition data, comparing canned produce to fresh and frozen based on nutritional value and cost. With continued emphasis on the importance of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, the study revealed that canned foods provide a tasty, nutritious and affordable means to conveniently incorporate fruits and vegetables into the daily diet.
