BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE: Recycling Behavior Literature Review

A report compiled for the Can Manufacturers Institute by Hill + Knowlton.

CMI commissioned this literature review for a greater understanding of how to change recycling behavior.

CMI hopes the public release of this literature review leads to informed, effective activities to increase recycling.

The can industry is committed to building on its leading recycling rates among food and beverage containers, which would generate additional environmental and economic impact. Metal cans are unique in that recycling them has a significant environmental and economic impact that occurs today at scale and that impact can happen over and over again because metal recycles forever.
