WASHINGTON, DC – July 15, 2019 — Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) President Robert Budway announced the appointment of Scott Breen, a strong sustainability communicator, to lead the association’s sustainability and recycling efforts.
Breen, who comes to CMI from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will represent the can manufacturing industry’s sustainability policy, infrastructure and communications efforts as its vice president of sustainability.
“The can manufacturing industry is thrilled to have Scott’s analytic ability, facilitation prowess and speaking experience,” said CMI Chairman Thomas Fischer. “He will be a great asset to CMI as we seek to effectively articulate how the attributes of the can make it the sustainable solution.”
“Breen brings a wealth of experience and great enthusiasm in and for sustainability and circular economy initiatives,” said Budway. “We look forward to his ability to communicate to a broad spectrum of stakeholders why the can is a superior package on each of the industry’s key performance indicators.”
Prior to joining CMI, Breen was the associate manager of the sustainability and circular economy program at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. He is also the creator and co-host of the Sustainability Defined podcast (https://sustainabilitydefined.com/). Breen began his career as an attorney-advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“I am excited to develop a proactive strategy of programs and activities to share how the can is the most sustainable package,” said Breen.
Breen received a B.A. in political economy from Georgetown University and was magna cum laude when receiving three advanced degrees – Juris Doctor, Master of Public Affairs and Social Entrepreneurship Certificate – from Indiana University.
