WASHINGTON, DC – May 24, 2017 – The Can Manufacturers Institute’s Board of Directors elected Jim Peterson, senior vice president, Ball Corporation; chief operating officer, food and aerosol packaging, its new chairman. Peterson succeeds Tom Snyder, president, Silgan Containers.
Peterson has been with Ball Corporation since 2006 and has held the positions of director of marketing of North American Ball Packaging Products, and vice president, marketing and corporate affairs, before moving into his current position in 2015. Prior to Ball, Peterson worked at Nexpak and U.S. Can Company.
“I look forward to making sure the can manufacturing industry’s premier association continues to protect and promote the industry, while advocating the benefits of this superior package,” said Peterson.
CMI President Robert Budway said, “Under Peterson’s leadership, CMI will continue to provide a forum for members to advocate common industry positions to legislative and regulatory agencies that have activities that impact the metal can market.”
Along with his CMI appointment, Peterson is a member of various boards, including Consumer Safety Products Association and National Association of Manufacturers.
Peterson holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University of Bloomington.
